Description

Through the lived experiences of Sara, Dina and Amal, this week presents the underpinning of women with disabilities self-concept – meaning how possible aspects of their life journey influence the creation of their identities and how social prejudices might affect their self-image.

This week provides as well tools to identify those prejudices, distance oneself from them along with tools and links supporting the development of a positive self-image, especially in relating to one’s body image.

It finally invites participants to grow a healthy and flourishing relationship to self at different levels by familiarizing with the PERMA model of well-Being.

Learning Objectives

• Identify challenges associated with the raising of a girl with disability and how those impact her self-identity.
• Identify social prejudices and stereotypes associated with disability, how those affect a woman’s self-esteem while learning to distance one-self of them.
• Familiarize with the “scarf” tool as a metaphor for the relationship to self, capture impact of social stereotypes on self-image and nurture an attitude of loving kindness and pride towards self.
• Familiarize with the “PERMA” model for well-being and intentionally engage in the positive emotions of gratitude and savoring to amplify physical well-being
• Become the “pilot” of one’s life by connecting to ones’ own dreams, distance oneself from “learned helplessness” and amplify “post-traumatic growth”
